m-VLCC is a mobile application which provides call card functionality and rates to the end user. The interaction with the call card server is automated so there is no need to remember access codes and access phone numbers. The call card provider benefits from low cost deployment, and easy top up functionality via debit or credit card. In addition, existing pin codes can be purchased and entered into the application. Non-terminating calls from users are eradicated since the application remembers the access codes. For international call card providers, the application provides roaming functionality so the user can select which country they are currently in. m-VLCC then calls the correct number for that country.

The Virtual Call Card automates the use of traditional Call Cards on the mobile phone.

Currently, to use a Call Card, the purchaser must ring a predefined number, which is usually a low rate number. The purchaser must then enter an authorisation/pin code. This code is often a long number which is not designed to be easily remembered (e.g. 11 digits). After entering the authorisation/pin code the purchaser must then enter the actual phone number required.

The Virtual Call Card allows a Call Card provider to present a mobile application to the user which automates the above manual process.

For international Call Card providers, the application is configured at the download/install stage to contain a list of all the countries in which the provider offers cheap rate access phone numbers. The user, when travelling, may select the country they are in and the application will switch to call the local cheap rate access number. From a user perspective, this will save them having to buy a local CallCard.

The application allows the user to maintain a list of frequently used numbers in an internal database. In many devices where access to the standard contacts list is allowed, the application provides a ‘Search’ option to gain access to the contacts list.
